The Huntington High School Highlanders have been trying to field a lacrosse team for a number of years. Although they are not officially part of the West Virginia Scholastic Lacrosse Association, they are making the right steps in doing so.
Huntington High's Head Coach, Ben Allen, said it's probably best that they missed this past season.
Instead, he had the team focus on fundamentals. When the guys were ready, Allen and the Highlanders scrimmaged other schools that are part of the WVSLA, such as Herbert Hoover and Capital.
The Highlanders expect to officially compete next year, but in the meantime, they're still spreading the word about the latest sport in Huntington.
