Century Aluminum Retirees Picket Capitol in Charleston

Posted: Updated:

A group of Century Aluminum retirees continued their fight to save their health benefits.

They held signs along Kanawha Boulevard, saying they will not be left behind.

A spokeswoman for the group says there's a lot of speculation that Century will restart the plant in Ravenswood and they want to make sure they're in the equation.

The group wants to also make sure plant officials re-instate their retiree benefits.

"We have lived in this state. We paid our tax dollars all of our life to this state. Supported this state, and we will not be left behind by anybody in this state," said Karen Gorrell.

Gorrell says more than 500 families are affected.

Many of those are now uninsured because all of their benefits have expired and they don't qualify for Medicare yet.
