Fallen firefighter remembered during a special ceremony
It was an emotional day as people came out to remember firefighters killed in the line of duty. The "West Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service" took place at the state capitol Sunday.
Family members of fallen firefighters, first responders, and people representing state officials came out to remember Joey King as well. King was a member of the Davis Creek-Ruthdale Volunteer Fire Department who died after falling off of a bridge, while investigating an arson on Corridor G in December of 2011.
"The fire department has been good to us... We couldn't ask for a better support system," said Sonja Carson, King's long-time companion.
Sunday also served as a day to remind everyone to think about fire protection.
The governor has also proclaimed Oct. 21 as "West Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Day" to remember King and others who have lost their lives.
