Future students at West Virginia State University could enjoy a new athletic facility thanks to a new fundraising drive.
According to a press release, the W Club has pledged to raise $200,000 for WVSU's $1.2 million athletic complex in Institute. WVSU announced they would build the new facility in October.
Club members are being asked to donate $1,000 per member, which can be spread out over three years. The donations will grant the member a lifetime membership in the W Club and their name will be placed on a plaque inside the new facility.
"But we will take any amount," said William "Billy" Lipscomb, president of the W Club. "I know people want to give in order to see this new athletic complex become a reality."
The new million dollar facility will be used for athlete conditioning and practice, with weight rooms, locker rooms, offices for coaches, and conference rooms. The building will also be home to the Yellow Jackets football team.
"The W Club has a long history of leadership giving to West Virginia State," said WVSU President Brian Hemphill. "This generous pledge is another example of the dedication of W Club members to the success of student athletes at State."
The W Club was founded in 1976 to support WVSU sports and inducts athletes into the schools Hall of Fame.
