Lt. Steve Cooper with Charleston Police told 13News that Clinton Green, 39, of Charleston, was shot several times this morning. Green died of his wounds.
Police said they do have a lead on a suspect, although they do not have anyone in custody. Lt. Cooper added that Charleston Police had dealt with Green before on drug-related incidents.
"The fact that he was shot numerous times and the fact that he was shot in the middle of the street is obviously of concern to us," Lt. Cooper said.
According to court documents, Green had a court date scheduled for early January 2013.
Green's uncle came forward to tell 13News that his nephew was trying to stay out of trouble before his death Wednesday morning.
His uncle added Green had several children, for which he was trying to win custody. Although his uncle said he was unsure about the incident that sparked the murder, he did mention Green was having troubles with his girlfriend.
Lt. Cooper said Green's girlfriend was one of several people they interviewed. Police are still investigating the case.
