A Charleston man is facing more than a dozen counts of first degree sexual assault for allegedly having sex with children on camera.
Clay Counts, 50, of Longmeadow Drive in Charleston, was arraigned Wednesday evening in Kanawha County magistrate court. Police said they found several video tapes in Counts' home of him having sex with three children, all under the age of 14.
The investigation is being conducted by the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the WV Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the FBI Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Police said that one of the children told them they had been raped by Counts since they were 10 years old. "Yes, it is a very serious crime. It's disgusting. We are asking the public if they know of any other victims of there are any other victims out there, that they contact the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation at 304-357-0200," said Detective Sean Snuffer.
Counts is charged with 14 counts of first degree sexual assault, sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian, sexual exploitation and the use of minors in filming sexually explicit conduct.
Counts was initially arrested in September when he was found downloading and distributing images of child pornography over Internet. The most recent arrest was made after video tapes were found in Counts' residence, which showed him performing various sexual acts with several children.
Multiple victims have been identified. This is an ongoing investigation. More charges are expected to follow at a later time.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is urged to contact Det. D.A. Scurlock at the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation.
