13 News has an update on a disturbing case of alleged child abuse that spans across two states.
Authorities say Rachel Nelson tried to smother her now 5-month old son Eli multiple times since he was born and that some of the cases happened in Boone County.
The abuse was discovered after the baby was being treated at a West Virginia hospital and then was transferred to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Authorities believe Nelson tried to smother her son tat least 15 times.
She's awaiting a hearing in Pittsburgh.
Meantime authorities are still looking at what charges she could face here.
"We're going over the volumes and volumes of medical records right now between our investigators and the prosecutors office, trying to determine what might be the appropriate charges to bring in order to bring her back to West Virginia," said Boone County Sheriff Rodney Miller.
Rachel Nelson was staying at a psychiatric hospital in Pittsburgh, undergoing an evaluation.
There's no word on how soon Rachel Nelson could face charges in West Virginia.
Her preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh has been rescheduled for sometime in January because prosecutors were waiting to hear from the doctor who generated medical reports in Pittsburgh.
