Report: Southern WV collected $30 in court costs in since late 2011
A report from United States Attorney Booth Goodwin's office says the Southern District of West Virginia collected nearly $30 million since mid-2011 in criminal and civil restitutions.
While nearly $1 million came from criminal cases, the other $28 million came from civil actions and $1.5 million was collected in forfeitures.
"The monies that we have collected this fiscal year represent five times more than this office's annual operating budget," U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin said in a news release. "But most important, the collection total reflects my office's continued commitment to recover monetary losses from acts of fraud and other violations of federal criminal and civil statutes."
Nationwide, the U.S. Attorneys' offices collected $13.1 billionincriminal and civil actions during the same time frame, more than double what they had collected a year prior.
