A drunk woman has been arrested and charged with stealing an ambulance that was responding to a medical call, according to Charleston Police.
According to the criminal complaint, Elizabeth Ann Lacy, 47, was arrested on Thursday.
Court documents show that an ambulance responded to a medical call in the 4000 Block of MacCorkle Avenue in Charleston.
According EMS personnel who were responding to the call, Lacy approached them and asked for a ride home. The medics told her that they were on a call and couldn't take her home.
The paramedics then entered the home of the patient and began treatment.
According to witnesses, after the medics entered the home, Lacy got into the ambulance and drove off with the emergency lights still on.
Police were called and they were able to track the ambulance to Lacy's home on Venable Avenue. It was parked in her driveway.
Police asked Lacy about the theft and she told them if they didn't want it stolen, they shouldn't have left the keys in it, according to court documents.
Lacy is being charged with grand larceny and attacking, injuring or obstructing a firefighter or emergency personnel.
