The West Virginia Division of Highways is reminding the public that the Nitro-St. Albans Bridge will be closed to traffic starting on Monday, January 7.
The bridge, also known as the Dick Henderson Memorial Bridge, will be closed for about a year as part of a replacement project.
On Saturday, January 5, the St. Albans Partnership, the Chamber of Commerce and a local radio station have teamed up for a "Bridge Closing Party". It will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Albans Roadside Park on MacCorkle Avenue. In addition to music, giveaways and contests, the St. Albans Historical Society will display photos and information about the bridge. Local businesses will also be there to show what steps are being taken to customers while the bridge is closed.
The Nitro-St. Albans Bridge will be widened to three lanes during the project. The span will also be upgraded with a new deck at an estimated cost of $24 million.
The project is scheduled to be completed in November of 2013. A map of the alternate routes, can be accessed by going to the WVDOT website, www.transportation.wv.gov, and clicking on the Dick Henderson Memorial Bridge Project.
