Ashland residents in the Central and Moore districts voted to approve Sunday alcohol sales in a special election Tuesday.
The clerk's office reports the vote passed 159 to 50.
Poll workers say the vote would allow alcohol sales by the drink for local downtown restaurants and private clubs.
Business owners say that people will still not be allowed to buy beer by the case, but by single drinks only.
Residents say they hope the approval will bring more business to the downtown area and increase revenue, and create more jobs.
