Friends react to deaths of 'BUCKWILD' star Shain Gandee, two others

Just feet away from where the Gandee family lives in Sissonville, another family tries to grapple with the reality that their role model has died.

He was my best friend," said Hannah Serls, referring to Shain Gandee, 21, who was discovered dead on Monday afternoon, along with his uncle, David Gandee, 48, and their friend, Robert Myers, 27. "He had my picture in his wallet, and he was my best friend."

Hannah said that when she grew up, she wanted to marry Shain, who always took care of her.

Kanawha County deputies said they found the Gandees and Myers inside Shane's Ford Bronco on Monday afternoon in the Thaxton Hollow area of Sissonville, just a mile from where Shain lived. While deputies have yet to determine a cause of death, Cpl. Brian Humphreys said they found the car's muffler submerged in mud.

Friends said they last saw the Gandees at Larry's Bar in Wolf Penn at 3 a.m. on Sunday before they left to go four-wheeling. They reported the pair missing on Monday morning.

"I thought it was an April Fools' joke but it came out true that they were missing,' said Angelia Serls, who grew up with Shain in Wolf Penn."

Serls said she knew Shain before he grew to superstardom on MTV's hit reality show, BUCKWILD, earlier this year.

"Oh, that's the real Shain. He was crazy. He was a great guy who's going to be dearly missed."

Other friends said they want all three men to be remembered equally.

"It's still a life loss, it doesn't matter if they were on TV or not," said Kelsie Boyd, of Sissonville.

Investigators took the bodies to the state medical examiner.

No foul play is expected at this time.

Shooting for the second season of "Buckwild" has been suspended, according to MTV spokesperson Jake Urbansk.
