A suspect took police on a chase through two states on Friday night before being arrested in Lawrence County, Ohio.
The Proctorville Police Department received a phone call from the Gino's Pizza restaurant in town at about 8:30 p.m. Employees told officers that a driver nearly hit their drive-thru.
Officers responded and were able to locate the white car a short time later. They said they tried to pull it over, but the driver sped away.
He led officers on a chase over the 31st Street Bridge into Huntington, WV. As the pursuit moved down 3rd Avenue and through several blocks, Huntington police officers and West Virginia State Police troopers joined in the chase.
The driver of the white car then backtracked over the 31st Street Bridge into Lawrence County, Ohio, according to deputies, where they had set up a roadblock.
Police were able to stop the suspect in the parking lot of the Kroger grocery store. They said the suspect resisted arrest and sustained cuts and bruises to his head.
He was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Medical Center for treatment.
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department deputies asked the suspect if he'd been drinking. They said the suspect responded, "all day long."
The suspect is facing charges of fleeing, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence. Investigators had not released his name Friday night.
Officers said there was a woman in the car with the suspect and that she told them she tried to get the suspect to stop but he wouldn't. She will not be charged according to police.
