Prom season is officially here.
Law enforcement officers wants to make sure teens aren't drinking and driving on their special night.
The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department launched Operation Graduation Prom Alive on Thursday.
The program is a joint effort between authorities in the county, as well as the Kanawha County Commission, Kanawha County School Board, and high school principals.
Sheriff Mike Rutherford said authorities will do underage drinking compliance checks in the coming weeks.
School leaders tell 13 News it's a great way to deter students from making bad choices.
"We want them to have a great time, but we want them to make responsible decisions as well," said Principal Mike Kelley, Herbert Hoover High School.
The program started back in 2006.
Since then, there's been no serious or fatal alcohol related accidents on prom night in Kanawha County.
