NEW: Teenager arrested in Huntington shooting

Posted: Updated:

A 17-year-old boy is being charged with malicious wounding after deputies said he shot his uncle after an argument. He will be taken to the Robert L Shell center in Barboursville after his arraignment.

It happened at a mobile home on Altizer Avenue.

Family members tell 13 News that the uncle went to the mobile home and forced his way into the house.  They said the teenager shot the uncle in self-defense with a shotgun.

Authorities said the shooting was not done in self-defense.  They said the uncle went to the mobile home to try and calm his nephew down after an argument.  They said the nephew was making threats against his uncle.

When the teen held up a shotgun, the uncle tried to push the weapon away, deputies said.

The weapon discharged and a bullet grazed the man's hand, deputies said.  He is going to be okay.

The teen's father, Dale Leffingwell, said the shotgun belongs to him.  He maintains his son grabbed it because he felt threatened.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Deputies with the Cabell County Sheriff's Department are on the scene of a reported shooting at a home on Lawson Heights in Huntington.

The shooting was reported just after 4 A.M. Monday morning.

It's unclear if someone was actually shot, or if this was a shots fired incident.

According to dispatchers, no one has been transported at this time.
