Boston Police are reporting the suspect wanted in the Boston Marathon bombing is in police custody. Live reports from the scene showed crowds who had gathered near an area of Watertown, Massachusetts applauded and clapped as the news spread primarily by Twitter feeds.
According to the Associated Press, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is in custody hours after his 26-year-old brother Tamerlan died in a gun battle with law enforcement that some estimated included 200 gun shots.
The teen was apparently hiding in a boat in the driveway of a homeowner when he was discovered by a neighbor. Negotiations continued through the evening Friday until he was picked up by police. Earlier in the day, residents endured a lock down and restricted mass transit travel as the extensive manhunt was underway.
Surveillance photos and video led authorities to the pair they believe responsible for Monday's marathon that killed three people and wounded 180 others. Law enforcement officials believe the pair is responsible for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer's death late Thursday.
At the height of the lock down, more than one million residents in the Boston area felt the restrictions of limited travel as authorities asked everyone to stay indoors.
