HUNTINGTON, WV (AP) — Canada has awarded a patent for a
railroad inspection system developed by two Marshall University
Marshall said Monday that the patent is the first
awarded by Canada for an invention developed at the university. The U.S.
awarded a patent for the system in 2012.
The system developed by
engineering professors Richard Begley and Tony Szwilski measures track
problems with a combination of GPS devices, ground penetrating radar and
Begley and Szilski say their system will improve the safety and accuracy of track inspections.
