Eugene Webb, Charleston senior assistant city attorney, dies in car accident
According to South Charleston Police, Eugene Webb died of injuries sustained in late night car accident in South Charleston.
According to the City of Charleston web site, Webb was the senior assistant city attorney.
The accident was called in just before midnight.
Police said Webb was traveling in the west bound lanes of McCorkle Avenue outside of Riverwalk Plaza in South Charleston and crossed the center line, hitting a tractor trailer truck head on.
Both men were transported. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries. Webb was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Charleston Mayor Danny Jones released the following statement about Webb:
"Gene was a very nice young man and a first-rate attorney
who handled many of our cases in Municipal Court and helped with legal insights
on other city issues. He always treated people with
respect and was a key part of our legal team. We're saddened by this
sudden tragedy and join his family and many friends in mourning his loss."
No word yet on the cause of the accident.
