Students in Huntington take part in 'Let's Move Challenge' event
With the rise in child obesity rates in West Virginia, one school in Huntington took part in the "Let's Move Challenge" on Wednesday.
Cox Landing Elementary school students did the "Sid Shuffle", a dance from the animated film, "Ice Age four: Continental Drift".
The goal of the challenge is to incorporate more physical activity throughout the day for students, in addition to recess or physical education class. "If you're not fit, you'll grow up to be fat then you'll die," said Selby Smith, a fifth grade student at Cox Landing Elementary.
The students appeared to enjoy the program and seemed to get the message. "There's a lot of kids now days that are getting overweight, and we need to stay fit", said Samuel Vance, also a fifth grade student at the school.
The "Let's Move Challenge" is part of a statewide initiative to combat childhood obesity in West Virginia.
