National Youth Science Camp

Posted: Updated:

Shiv Sunil from Morgantown High School and Vivian Yao from Bridgeport High School have been chosen as delegates to the 2013 National Youth Science Camp to be held this summer in Charleston.

The National Youth Science Camp is a governor's honors program that brings two high-achieving high school seniors from each state and others from around the world to West Virginia for a month in the summer to study with preeminent scientists.

The program was created as a part of the 100th anniversary of West Virginia's founding. Originally intended as a one-time celebration of youth and science, this year will mark the camp's 50th anniversary. Alumni of the program number more than 5,000.

Delegates attend the National Youth Science Camp at no expense.

Sunil will attend Yale University, majoring in physics and/or computer science. Yao will attend Princeton University and has not decided on a major.

Sundus Lateef, the alternate for the camp, also is a student at Bridgeport High. She hopes to attend West Virginia University, where she'll major in biology.
