Standoff with police in Elkview ends with one man taken to hospital


A man living in Elkview was taken to the hospital after a standoff with police Saturday night.

The standoff happened on Wills Creek Road around 9 p.m.

According to Kanawha County deputies on scene, the unidentified man called his veteran's counselor Saturday night, saying he wanted "suicide by cop" and that he had ingested unknown narcotics.  The man also said he had multiple firearms in the home. 

West Virginia State Police, Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies, the Kanawha County bomb squad, and emergency medical services responded. 

Authorities closed Wills Creek Road as a precaution.

The bomb squad's robot entered the home first to survey the scene. 

According to deputies, authorities made their way inside the home.  No gunfire was reported, and the man was taken into custody.

He is being transported to the hospital for excessive ingestion of narcotics, authorities are investigating the case.
