A break-in and theft at a church in Cross Lanes has people talking this Sunday as other churches look for ways to beef up security and question how something like this could happen.
"I think we have lost our moral anchor in America," said Rick Carey, Pastor at Christ Harvest Cathedral. His church is a few miles away from Souls Harvest Church where a recent burglary occurred.
"I think that we are living in a country that the standards are so changed and people have lost their sense of integrity," Carey said.
Kerry Wandling lives near Souls Harvest Church and said she and some other people saw the burglary happening. She said this isn't the first time something like this has happened. It has resulted in thousands of dollars worth of lost equipment and damage to the building.
"It was just confusing kind of because I wouldn't think somebody would do that to a church," Wandling said.
Rick Carey said so far his church across town has not been a target of crime. He isn't planning on letting his guard down.
"We have security systems and insurance but we'll trust God," Carey said.
And now he is trying to make sense of a crime that hits just a little too close to home.
"To steal from a church or any organization that is giving to the community, I won't say makes it worse, but it does trouble me," Carey said.
