Investigators are trying to figure out if two Boone County house fires were intentionally set by someone.

The Ebony Lane family believes another family member set the fire as 'payback' for an on-going custody dispute.

Jennifer Workman said tensions were high following a court hearing on Tuesday.

"It was a custody hearing over my stepson and I got to keep him. They told me that I'd pay for it and I'd see it in the end," she said.

State Police are looking into whether or not someone intentionally set the fire and if the custody battle had anything to do with it.

No arrests have been made yet.

West Virginia State Police Sgt. Charles Sutphin said the State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate the fire.

Jennifer's sister, Daffenie Workman, said she does not have insurance on the home.

"We've worked so hard to make sure that the kids have roof over their heads and that they have what they need. Now, they don't have nothing," she said.

Sutphin has reached out to both the Red Cross and local YWCA to help the victims, who lost everything in the fire.

Authorities are also looking into whether or not the second fire on Highland Avenue is suspicious.

If you have any information about either of these fires, call the Madison detachment of WVSP at 304-369-7800.
