Joe D. Campbell has been named WesBanco Bank Inc.'s market president for its Parkersburg region. Campbell's promotion became effective May 1. He replaces Larry Johnson, who retired April 30 after 15 years at WesBanco.
Campbell, who has more than 40 years in the banking industry, now is responsible for supporting all corporate goals. He previously served as senior vice president and senior commercial banker, corporate banking — Parkersburg and Kanawha Valley regions.
Campbell began his professional career as a bank examiner for the state of West Virginia in 1978. After three years of service, he accepted a position with an independent oil and gas contractor and served as an accountant and office manager until 1985, when he joined the Mid-Ohio Valley banking community.
From 1985 to 1998 he served in a number of managerial capacities, including vice president and cashier-operations officer for Wood County Bank and Commerce Bank and as commercial sales executive with Huntington Bank.
While employed by Huntington, he was promoted to regional retail manager and vice president before being appointed regional president and city executive for the Parkersburg region.
He joined WesBanco Bank-Parkersburg in 1998 as senior vice president and senior lending officer for the Parkersburg region.
Campbell earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Glenville State College and attended graduate school at Marshall University. He is a graduate of the West Virginia School of Banking, the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and the Risk Management Association's Advanced Lending School at East Carolina University.
He serves on the board of advisers at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. He also serves on the board of governors of West Virginia University, including as chairman of the Regional Campus Committee from 2003 to 2006.
In 2008 he was appointed to, and continues to serve on, the Board of Governors at WVU-Parkersburg. He served as the board's chairman from 2008 to 2012.
He also has served on the board of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, including as a member of its board of trustees from 1997 to 2011. In addition to those positions, he has been a member of the board of the Wood County Development Authority since 2003, serving as chairman for two years, and for the past three years on the board of Camden Clark Physicians Corp.
Campbell's other professional affiliations include the West Virginia chapter of the Risk Management Association, where he has served as a board member since 2002. He has also held positions of leadership with a number of charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association, the United Way of the Mid-Ohio Valley, and the Family Crisis Intervention Center.
