A new trial date has been set for the man charged with murdering his adopted daughter in Charleston, WV.
According to the Kanawha County Courthouse, Roy Pittman will have a trial date on Monday, October 27, at 9 a.m.
Pain rips through Bridget Crist. She said can't understand why anyone would kill her 15-year-old sister, Brittany.
"She was the only person I know that wasn't afraid to say 'I love you,' to anybody she loved," Crist said. "And she loved everybody."
Roy Pittman, 69, of Charleston, is accused of murdering his adopted daughter, Brittany Pittman on May 24. He also charged with malicious wounding and attempted murder.
"I just don't understand why this happened...what went wrong," said Crist, who couldn't recall her father ever acting this violently.
Kanawha County deputies responded to a call on Keystone Drive last month. According to a criminal complaint, Pittman's wife, Wanda, called 911, saying that he had just shot his daughter and was moving across the yard with the gun.
Brittany was found dead in her room with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Deputies said after shooting Brittany, Pittman then approached his adopted son, Matthew, next door and told him, "I've already shot your sister, now you are going next." The complaint states that Pittman shot Matthew in the leg.
When deputies arrived on scene, Pittman shot himself in the head. He and Matthew were rushed to Charleston Area Medical Center.
Matthew was released from CAMC on May 30, according to Crist.
Pittman was released from CAMC on Thursday and appeared in Kanawha County Magistrate Court shortly after. He was taken to South Central Regional Jail without bond.
Brittany was a student at Capital High School. Crist said she was buried in Parkersburg, where her biological mother was also buried.
Brittany was one of seven adopted children in the Pittman family, according to Crist.
Deputies are still trying to find a motive in this shooting.
