Glasgow city councilman under investigation by authorities
Chief of Glasgow Police, Jeff Stevens said, "Councilman Hager is under investigation for some accusations placed against him."
Travis Hager is a member of Glasgow City Council, and up until last month, leased Hager's Pre-owned Auto and Service, LLC, in town.
Now, Chief Stevens says an investigation is underway, but said specifics are not being released at this point.
He says the difficult part of the investigation is the fact they're investigating one of their own.
"Being a council member, it's tough. We work alongside him and he works along side us. It is tough, it makes it tough when it hits close to home," Chief Stevens said.
Hager leased the car lot for years, but on July 1 of this year, his dealership license expired.
Now, the garage is still open, but the lot itself is closed for business. In fact, management said the old sign is coming down, and the new sign is going up soon.
Police couldn't confirm why the lot was shut down, but they said the WV State Police are investigating.
Stevens said, "If we just go off of accusations, what happens could be a bad thing. For a man to lose his position on the council or even his personal life, we've got to have true evidence."
In the meantime, Chief Stevens says he has a guarantee for people living in the town of Glasgow. "After the investigation is over, if the accusations placed against him are true, we're going to follow through with them to the best of our abilities, the way they need to be followed through with."
