Frontier workers to rally in Charleston as contract expiration nears
Communication Workers of America are planning to attend a rally on Saturday, July 27, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. in front of Frontier headquarters in Charleston.
The current labor agreement, which covers 1600 Frontier employees in the state, is set to expire at midnight on August 2. The company and the Communications Workers of America (CWA), who represent the workers, have been in negotiations for the past month.
The rally is being hosted by CWA Local 2001. Organizers plan to have entertainment, food, refreshments and featured speakers including UMWA President Cecil Roberts, CWA District Vice-Presidents Edward Mooney and Chris Shelton, elected officials and labor leaders from across the state.
The contract set to expire covers former Verizon employees, who became Frontier employees when the company bought Verizon's landline business as part of an $8.6 billion deal in 2009.
