Neighbors report horses in poor condition in St. Albans

Posted: Updated:

People in the Green Valley community of St. Albans are outraged about the condition of two horses living along Poplar Drive.

The animals are in a fenced area. People spotted the horses and called the Kanawha Charleston Animal Shelter to report the situation.

A humane officer has been made aware of the horses and their appearance. The officer is scheduled to meet with a veterinarian later this week to examine the horses.

One of the horses has a visible injury on her face.

A woman stopped by the enclosure Tuesday and left a note for the owner of the horses offering help.

Other residents tell 13 News they have offered to take the horses and care for them, but the owners of the animals have so far declined those offers.

Throughout the day Tuesday people also left hay and feed for the animals.

People are being asked not to give the horses grain because it could lead to them being overfed.

At this time the horses are still in the enclosure and no further information is available.
