Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action hosts back-to-school 'block party'

An "old school block party" offered assistance on Tuesday to a community in Kanawha County just in time for the start of another school year.

The Kanawha Institute for Social Research & Action (KISRA) held a community-wide block party to celebrate the start of a new school year for both the Harambee Learning Center and Kanawha County Schools.

Dozens of people attended the event and KIRSA promoted its services to the community, included help with employment, housing and job training. "KISRA is a lot of love and what we are doing? We want to spread the love to the community. Why not? A party is the best way to do it I think," said Michael Jones, the program manager for KISRA.

The block party was also about having fun with neighbors. "It's fun because we have the jumping Jupiter and the contests. You get to dance and hang out with your friends," said Ameris Chadband from Institute.

It also included an open house for potential home buyers to view homes that KISRA has for sale.
