If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

CHARLESTON, WV -

The candidate filing period is still some 6 months away, but potential candidates continue to make their moves.

Charleston attorney Andrew D. Byrd announced Aug. 8 he will run for the House of Delegates in Kanawha County's 35th District. He filed pre-candidacy paperwork for the seat the same day, registering as a Democrat.

Byrd, a South Charleston resident, is a graduate of West Virginia University and the WVU College of Law. He works with the law firm of Mannion & Gray.

"This announcement comes after a time of reflection with my wife, family, friends, colleagues and the realization that West Virginia and the citizens of Kanawha County deserve a new voice," Byrd said in a news release. "When elected, I will be an active and strong leader in the Legislature and will always put the people of West Virginia first."

The district currently is represented by four members – three Republicans and two Democrats. Two of the four have filed pre-candidacy paperwork to represent Kanawha County in the state Senate.
