Students began classes on Thursday at West Virginia State University in Institute, and they received a very special welcome from the university president.
President Brian Hemphill welcomed new and transfer students to campus.
He then led the newest Yellow Jackets from the auditorium to the student plaza where they were treated to free food and music. "The number one priority for every one of our new students is to graduate from this university. That is something that's very, very important to us is to ensure that they're having a great experience both in the classroom and out of the classroom, and leave here prepared to make a difference in the Valley," said Hemphill.
Students also had the chance to check out many of the campus organizations to see which groups or activities they might want to get involved with this year.
