WV woman charged with multiple child abuse charges, possession charges
A woman from Logan County, WV is facing charges after police found her four children home alone with no power.
According to the criminal complaint, Kellie Odella Workman , 36, was charged with four counts of child abuse creating risk of injury and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
According to the Logan County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to Workman's home to look into complaints about unattended children. When deputies knocked on the door to the home, they were greeted by three children, ranging in age from five to 13. When deputies entered the home, they found a fourth child on a couch inside.
Speaking with the children led deputies to believe that they lived with their mother. Deputies asked the children if they knew where their mother was and were told that when the children asked their mom where she was going they were told, "None of your business." Police also noticed that power was out in the home and several bags of garbage were overflowing. The children also told police that they did not have beds and slept on couches.
The children told police they used small flashlight to get around the house. Deputies also discovered there was no food in the home. Child Protective Services were called to assist at the scene.
According to the complaint, Workman returned home about 11:45 p.m. and was stopped by deputies. Workman refused to tell deputies where she had been. While searching Workman, deputies say they found a baggie containing what they think is Xanax. During a search of her vehicle, a pipe was located with what is believed to be marijuana residue on it.
