A Nitro, WV man is behind bars tonight after, police say, he held his ex-girlfriend against her will and threatened to kill her.
Nitro police arrested Larry Michael Brown Thursday night on charges of kidnapping and nighttime burglary.
"Not every relationship is perfect but there's a line you cross that should never go to that extent," said Amy Thomas.
For Amy Thomas, that line passed last night. When her former boyfriend, Larry Brown, broke into her apartment, held her against her will and threatened to kill her for over an hour.
"I was so terrified. I was so beyond terrified. I couldn't even breathe," she said.
The incident occurred in front of her 5 and 6-year-old children.
"I was terrified that he was going to kill me, plain and simple... and all I kept hearing was that these kids are going to hear this, the kids are going to see this and there was nothing I could do," said Thomas.
Around 9:40 p.m. Brown burst through the door and that's when Thomas said her nightmare began.
Thomas says Brown grabbed her phone and demanded to know who she was speaking to. An active domestic violence protection or DVP order was supposed to prevent him from contacting or seeing Thomas and the children. The DVP order was issued in June and runs until December.
"I kept trying to grab the phone. I tried to run out the door and I was grabbed, thrown across the room," Thomas said.
It wasn't until Brown was distracted when Thomas grabbed the phone and sent a Facebook message to a friend asking for help. She credits that message and the Nitro police for saving her life.
Brown is being held at the South Central Regional Jail. His bond was set at $100,000.
A man has been arrested and charged with felony kidnapping and nighttime burglary in Nitro, WV.
Nitro police said Larry Michael Brown, 44, went to a woman's apartment on Broadway Avenue last Thursday night. The victim has an active domestic violent protection order against Brown.
Police said he has violated the DVP order in the past. Brown and the victim have two children together, police said. The kids were home when Brown was violent with her, they said.
