Kanawha County Sheriff's Office Investigators say an arrest has been made in the case of a car theft in Elkview, WV.
Investigators said Anthony Konopinski was arrested in Brooklyn Heights, OH about 5:30 a.m.
Investigators said authorities in the area found him with the damaged stolen vehicle after responding to a call about a broken down car. Investigators said he lied to authorities about his identity.
When they discovered who he was, investigators said he fled. Konopinski was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest, felony drug possession, receiving stolen property and falsification in Ohio.
Konopinski is charged with grand larceny auto in Kanawha County, WV.
According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the incident happened Tuesday just before 10 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to the Kroger at Crossing's Mall in Elkview. Investigators said a beige 2001 Nissan Sentra had been stolen. The owner, according to authorities, is an 84- year-old man who lives in the town. The release states he left his vehicle and went to pay at the fuel center cashier's window, and that's when a white male in a red zip-up sweatshirt stole his vehicle and fled towards Charleston.
After interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, the suspect was identified as 21-year-old Anthony Konopinski of Seville, Ohio. A warrant for Konopinski for grand larceny was obtained in Kanawha County Magistrate Court, according to the release.
The release goes on to state that the suspect is wanted in the Ohio on numerous charges. Investigators said Konopinski has ties to Morgantown and Logan, WV.
