New sheriff appointed in Clay Co., WV after former sheriff resigns, pleads guilty to wiretapping
Clay Co. commissioners voted to make Garrett Samples the next sheriff.
CLAY, WV -
The Clay County Commission announced a new sheriff after the previous sheriff was charged with wiretapping and resigned.
Commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Garrett Samples as sheriff during their meeting Wednesday.
"The sheriff's office here in Clay County is a great bunch of guys," Samples said. "I think I have the support of the Sheriff's Department, I think I have the support of the community, so I don't look for any changes so to speak."
Samples will become sheriff on Oct 1. Samples was chosen following a controversy involving the previous sheriff, Miles Slack.
