Over a period of five nights, contractors were able to pour the concrete for the new bridge deck, according to Carrie Bly, a communications specialist with the WVDOT. In a news release Monday from the WVDOT, some of the concrete remains covered with burlap and plastic to complete the curing process.
The bridge deck approaches and the sidewalk still need to be poured. Workers are now focusing on preparing for that process according to Bly.
The West Virginia Department of Transportation is uploading videos and pictures of the Dick Henderson bridge to chronicle the project. The bridge connecting Saint Albans and Nitro was closed earlier in 2013 and is expected to remain closed through the majority of the year. The latest estimate on the span reopening is sometime in November.
