The family of an expecting mother who died Saturday night in a car crash on Frame Road in Elkview, West Virginia spoke exclusively to 13 News about the hardship they are facing.
"It was completely a big shock when the officer came to the door. He was trying to tell me she was gone and I didn't want to believe," said Michael Pulley, the fiance of Poling.
For Michael Pauley, it feels like a never-ending nightmare. His fiance, Candy Poling, died in a fatal car crash Saturday night.
"She was so strong. It was almost like she was indestructible," said Pauley.
Deputies say Poling was driving along Frame Road near the intersection of Pequonia Drive when her car collided with another.
The site of the crash was only yards away from her front door. She was declared dead at the scene.
"Literally 32 seconds and she would have been here," said Pauley.
Poling's family says she on her way home from work at the time. She was a nursing student at the University of Charleston and worked two jobs at two hospitals. She also had two daughters, a 4-year-old and an 11-year-old, as well as a third child on the way.
"No matter what she was doing, school or work, she was always there for her kids," said Pauley.
The kitchen table inside their home is proof of Poling's nurturing personality. Hours before her accident and before working a double-shift at the hospital, she made sure to decorate for her daughter's birthday party.
"She was the kind of person that she got in her head to do something, she was going to do it no matter what. We're all going to remember her as an incredibly strong, bright, shinning star and we're all going to miss her," said Pauley.
Deputies have not released the name of the other driver involved because she is a juvenile.
