A Kanawha County school received some help raising money through a unique approach. Fundrunners is based in Atlanta, Georgia. It's an organization that goes to schools to help raise funds for the school through exercise. The member are all former athletes who have been working with kids their entire lives.
Fundrunners has been at Overbrook Elementary this week educating students about Character Education, Healthy Eating and Fitness. This is the group's first time in West Virginia. "We love making an impact on kids' lives and really being able to change their lives. They'll come up to us and say 'thanks for teaching us never to give up, we had a game last night and we remember what you guys said' so, it's really awesome," said Abby Ruffner, an area manager for Fundrunners.
The school hosted a Fund Run Day on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Each student ran 30 laps. For each lap completed, the student raises money from sponsor pledges. Every student at the school participated.
The school is hoping to raise $15,000 and all the funds will stay at Overbrook Elementary to subsidize the art teacher and some extra curricular activities for the students.
