RACINE, WV -
A suspect who evaded police on Oct. 29 was caught in Roane County, WV on Nov. 4.
John Berry was caught and charged with a parole violation, four circuit court capias, and daytime burglary. According to the West Virginia State Police, Berry also assaulted a US Marshal during his capture.
Berry is being held without bond in the South Central Regional Jail.
Investigators need your help searching for a man who ran from them on Tuesday. Boone County deputies said John Weslee Berry is wanted on numerous felony warrants.
For hours, investigators were searching the Racine area for Berry. The search began around 1 p.m. "He's always a danger to the public until we can get him into custody," said Chief Deputy Chad Barker.
No stranger to being behind bars, Barker said Berry has a history of fleeing. This time, Barker said Berry ditched his car on Indian Creek Road after deputies spotted him and ran into the woods nearby. That's where, they said, they lost track of him.
Barker said Berry has been on the run for months. He's wanted from Boone to Kanawha County. "Burglary, grand larceny, he's wanted on a parole violation," Barker said. "He had just been released from prison not too long ago."
Boone County deputies along with troopers with the West Virginia State Police were searching from Peytona to Bloomingrose, and everywhere in between. K9 units and the West Virginia State Police helicopter were on scene as well.
During the search, schools in the area were letting out, but Barker said the main threat that Berry posed to the public was running from deputies in a vehicle. He said while families should be on alert, there is no evidence to prove he poses a threat to anyone in the area.
"He's well known in the area," Barker said. "People know him. He used to live here where we are now. The locals here are very familiar with him."
Despite a couple of decent leads, Berry is still at large. If you have any information on the whereabouts of John Weslee Barry you're asked to contact the Boone County Sheriff's Office or call 911.
