Quarterback Rakeem Cato threw for five first half touchdown passes as the Thundering Herd ran past the Golden Eagles, 61-13. It's the most points the Thundering Herd have scored in a game since 2002. Cato's five touchdown passes was also one short of the single game record.
The running game also held their own Saturday afternoon. Essray Taliaferro and Kevin Grooms each went over 100 yards and scored a touchdown.
The Thundering Herd got off the 28-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. They improve to 5-3 and 3-1 in Conference USA. The five wins match the win total of a year ago. Marshall plays their second straight home game next Saturday as they take on UAB. Kick-off is at noon.
Midway through the second quarter the 1998 Thundering Herd team was honored. That year the squad went 12-1, won the Mid-American Conference and Motor City Bowl.
