83-year-old woman beats home intruder with cane in Athens County, OH
BUCHTEL, OH -
An elderly woman beat an intruder with her cane according to a Facebook update from the Athens County Sheriff's Department. Rozella Brown, 83, of Buchtel said she heard the doorbell ring midday Monday. She didn't answer the door or look to see who was there.
Not long after that, she said she noticed a "figure" crawling across her kitchen floor. She was in the next room watching television. Brown told deputies that she got up, went into the bedroom and noticed a man who about "school aged", average height and weight, wearing a gray corduroy hooded jacket and blue jeans.
Brown began hitting the suspect repeatedly with her cane. He covered his face and ran from the bedroom into the living room where she kept her purse. She told deputies that the man took her billfold from the purse. Brown kept hitting the suspect all the way out the door, asking him his name. She said he told her, "Austin."
The suspect escaped out the back door of the home. Deputies called in a K-9 but was unable to get a track. The incident is under investigation
