A West Virginia man has been convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing his ex-wife in her suburban Pittsburgh home in May 1999.
Forty-six-year-old John Minch, of Cameron, W. Va., was quickly convicted by an Allegheny County jury Friday after representing himself in the murder of 29-year-old Melissa Groot, whose body was found in the bathtub by her second husband.
Minch was arrested a decade after the murder following DNA tests on a hair found at the crime scene, which he contends could also match millions of other men.
Minch accused the prosecutor of misconduct, saying an alibi witness died three years before police charged him.
Assistant District Attorney Lisa Pellegrini scoffed at Minch's claims he was framed, saying he beat Groot during their marriage and killed her during a custody dispute.
He faces life in prison.
