UPDATE: Iaeger Elementary students start school again on Thursday
Students who attended Iaeger Elementary School are headed back to class on Thursday, but it will not be at their old school. McDowell County School Superintendent, Nelson Spencer, said on Monday, Dec. 16 that the students will be attending class at their temporary schools. That is River View High School and Bradshaw Elementary School.
The students had to be relocated after a portion of Iaeger Elementary School's parking lot slid into the Tug River on Dec. 2. The McDowell County Board of Education deemed the property unsafe for students to return.
Students at Iaeger Elementary will never be returning to their former classrooms.
They've been out of school for two days because a portion of the school's parking lot slipped into the Tug River.
The slide happened Friday, Dec. 2, and the school board has now deemed the property unsafe for the students to return.
McDowell County Superintendent Nelson Spencer said Wednesday he will make an announcement to the school's faculty telling them about a temporary plan the school board has come up with. He said members spent the day Tuesday, Dec. 10 looking at all other facilities to see where students could go.
Spencer said the next step is to immediately begin moving out supplies and furniture from the building.
Spencer said he expects the students to be back to class early next week.
