One male is in the hospital after being struck by a train in Portsmouth, OH.
According to the Portsmouth Police Department, it happened in the area of the 1000 block of Lincoln Street at 12:04 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28.
Police say a male, identified by his girlfriend as Michael Juratovic, 24, was trying to jump a train between two stopped rail cars. However, according to his girlfriend, the train started moving and Juratovic fell off the train.
Police say that according to other witnesses, Juratovic climbed between two rail cars, was sitting on a coupler, and was trying to put one foot on the ground, in which the train started moving, and he fell.
According to police, witnesses say the train ran over Juratovic's leg, which was severed at the hip.
Juratovic was initially taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, in which he was reported to be in stable, but critical condition, but was later transferred to the OSU Medical Center.
The Portsmouth Police Department says an investigation is pending in regards to possible criminal trespass charges against Juratovic.
