A man is dead after being shot by police after a robbery that occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at the Grand Central Mall in Vienna, WV, in Wood County.
According to Sgt. Michael T. Baylous with the West Virginia State Police, Steven Lewis Pfalzgraf, 24, of Parkersburg, was shot outside of the food court of the mall by a Parkersburg Police officer. He was able to drive a short distance to the Toys R US at the mall, where he died.
Sgt. Baylous says Pfalzgraf was dragging an officer with his vehicle, and the officer was able to free himself from the vehicle. Pfalzgraf then tried to run another officer over, in which the officer shot him. Police from various agencies were at the mall at the time of the robbery for a training session.
This was all after Pfalzgraf, along with a husband and wife, John and Jenna Ragalyi of New Matamoras, OH, attempted to flee the scene of the mall, in which a woman's purse was stolen by John Ragalyi at the food court of the mall.
According to Sgt. Baylous, the Ragalyi's fled the scene on foot after Pfalzgraf was shot and killed, and later turned themselves into the Parkersburg Police Department.
Sgt. Baylous says they are not in custody at this time, however, charges are forthcoming.
