Ohio County Development Authority approves purchase of 2.6 acres of land next to Fusion Japanese Steakhouse
Ohio County -
The retail industry hasn't been fairing too well in the current economy, but last year, The Highlands saw a 6 percent growth, and according to county officials, that's great news.
It's an exciting time for the Ohio County Development Authority as some major projects are coming to fruition at the Highlands.
The authority approved a purchase agreement for 2.6 acres of land next to Fusion Japanese Steakhouse Jan. 21. A California-based company, United Growth, purchased the property for $900,000 and wants to bring in new tenants.
"They have proposed a multi-tenant building, probably four to five tenants, we're hoping two nice restaurants, unique to the area, that's one thing we're always trying to do is bring in stuff that's not already here," said Randy Wharton, chairman of the Ohio County Development Authority.
The authority is also hoping to bring in two other large restaurant chains, in front of Best Buy and near WesBanco. Wharton is also excited about another project in the town center that may be announced next month. It's in the final design stages, and will be very unique to the area.
There is also more office space coming. They approved a lease agreement last night with MVB Insurance company to rent office space in town center.
Also, OVMC will be opening a family practice in the lot near Panera.
