Delegate Anthony Barill, D-Monongalia, age 80, was admitted to Ruby Memorial Hospital early Saturday morning for a gun shot wound. Officials at the hospital said he is currently in fair condition.

Police later issued a news release about an unattended death which occurred in the Woodburn area of Morgantown early Saturday morning. MECCA 911 confirmed that there was a shooting at 937 Garrison Ave., which is listed as Barill's home.

The death is not believed to be suspicious in nature and the victim's name is being withheld, according to the press release. Police have not released any further information, indicating that it would wait until family members have been notified.

Barill is a Star City native and served as the Monongalia County Sheriff from 1997-2001. He is currently serving his second term in the House of Delegates after being elected in 2010.

A statement was released by members of the House of Delegates Saturday afternoon:

"All members of the House of Delegates join in sending their thoughts and prayers to Delegate Tony Barill as he recovers at a Morgantown hospital," the statement reads.

House Speaker Tim Miley, D-Harrison, also shared his concerns.

"I have received an outpouring of calls from delegates expressing concern for Delegate Barill and his family," Miley said. "In a time such as this, political matters are set aside, as we all concentrate on supporting our friend and colleague and wishing him a speedy recovery."
