Charleston Public Works begins patching potholes

Posted: Updated:

It's been a long winter, but this week we are finally getting a taste of spring!  This warm weather spell means road crews are taking advantage of the warm weather to fill pot holes.

Six crews from Charleston Public Works were out on Kanawha Boulevard, Court Street, Loudon Heights and Bridge Roads.  They're using a hot patch mix, which provides a more permanent solution compared to the cold mix used to fill pot holes.

Asphalt Crew Foreman, Jackie Atkins, says the cold mix is "just a temporary fix. It won't last very long. Once it rains it will come right back out, but this (the hot mix) will last a whole lot longer".

Roads are not shut down to traffic as crews work.  Motorists are advised to be aware of crews patching potholes in the road and drive cautiously around those areas.  Workers are working in the streets in florescent uniforms for easy visibility.
