Huntington Prep looking to be recognized by the WVSSAC

Huntington Prep is one step closer to being recognized by the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission after the Senate voted 31-3 in favor of Bill 540. In part, Huntington Prep will become part of the WVSSAC. In their five years in existence they have yet to become a member of the WVSSAC.

Huntington Prep isn't looking to participate in the state basketball tournament. The primary reason they would like to be recognized is so scheduling would be made easier. When Prep is trying to schedule opponents from other states it becomes more difficult due to the WVSSAC not recognizing them. Other incentives to becoming recognized is they would be able to participate in ESPN sanctioned events such as their national basketball tournament.

Now, the bill will proceed to the House as Lawmakers, and will try to pass it through legislature before midnight on Saturday, March 8th.
