    The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network and West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence are getting help from Verizon's HopeLine program to help those affected by domestic violence and child abuse.

They're hoping lightening strikes three times.

Why not? A group from Beckley has hit five numbers on Powerball drawings twice.

They have missed only the bonus Powerball — first in December of 2002 when the five number prize was $100,000 and again Feb. 8, when their prize was a cool $1 million.

The "Beckley 27" sent two representatives to Charleston Feb. 18 to officially claim the prize. Each of the 27 who played, all employees of Beckley Newspapers, will receive a check for $25,370.52 after taxes.

They matched 24-25-34-37-54, only missing the Powerball — 29.

Their Powerball number was 28.

"We were that close … we've already bought tickets to the next drawing," said Lisa Stadelman. "We play pretty regularly. We got about $2,500 each the first time, $25,000 this time…so maybe the third time we can get $25 million."

"Everyone is saying, ‘The third time is the charm,'" said Diana Slone, who purchased the tickets.

Stadelman estimated that "10-15" employees were a part of both winnings, some 12 years apart.

"There were a lot of people in need," said Slone. "From my heart, I'm happy. Not for myself, but for everyone else."

There have been 65 winners of million dollar plus drawings in the history of the West Virginia Lottery, according to director John Musgrave, adding that this is the first time the West Virginia Lottery has had someone win a jackpot twice "that we know of," according to a lottery official.

The winning ticket was purchased at R.J.'s Dry Hill Merchants in Beckley.
